Dwindle, Decease
These images were made from discarded slides, which I scanned in using the reflective setting. This created the images to become subdued in colour and dirt and decay to be shown clearly. This piece discusses the fading and loss of detail in memory from the passing of time, represented through hazy and unclear images. The dirt and imperfections on the images display their age, which reflects notions of transitory time. The loss of clarity in facial features represents the loss of identity in memory, how one might remember someone’s smell or item of clothing they were wearing, but their name or facial qualities could be lost. The book Dwindle, Decease was created to reflect the objectivity of the images and to place them into a collective, imitating how memories are gathered and stored in the brain. The Surrealist movement heavily influenced these images
